I have a W2K TC/Citrix system that recently went boom. I beleive I know how
to fix it, but I wanted to confirm and ask for advice before proceeding.
Fortunately I have a few days to fix this... Our TS Licensing server recently
had an unexpected shutdown due to a power failure and a UPS service problem.
Murphy's third strike in this was that the TS licensing database appears was
corrupted by the crash soe the licensing service will not start... When I try
to start it I get:
A service specific error 31 dialog message.

The Event log entries:
---event ID: 44 Source:TermServLicensing
General database error occurred, Can't initialize ESE instance - error -255
JET_errDatabaseBufferDependenciesCorrupted, Buffer dependencies improperly
set. Recovery failure..
---event ID: 54 Source:TermServLicensing
Can't open restored database file. A copy of the restored database file has
been saved as C:\WINNT\System32\LServer\TLS4CC.tmp. Terminal Services
Licensing will use the existing database file.
---event ID: 44 Source:TermServLicensing
General database error occurred, Can't initialize ESE instance - error -255
JET_errDatabaseBufferDependenciesCorrupted, Buffer dependencies improperly
set. Recovery failure.
---event ID:7024 Source:Service Control Manager
The Terminal Services Licensing service terminated with service-specific
error 31.

Based on what I have read here and on technet it looks like I will need to
remove and reinstall the TS Licensing service and then contact the
Clearinghouse to get the licenses re-installed... Is this the 'best' way to
handle this ?

You could also do a restore of the system state.

Thanks, that is an excellent (and easier option for me!). Since nothing is
changing I'll try your method first.

Will it work even though TS License service cannot start ?

If not, I beleive there was a thread here somewhere that said I could move
the sys32/LServer folder and create a new one to make the service 'start
fresh' before doing the restore. Either way it should save significant time.
I was not aware that was included in the System State...
